A night to remember for Newry Shamrocks Athletes
The recent Newy Shamrocks A.C. N.A.C.A.I. reunion held in the Shamrocks Social Club was an outstanding success and a credit to all concerned. It evoked some terrific memories of a marvellous decade when the local club was to the forefront of Irish Athletics. Renowned throughout the country for its many successes at all levels and venues near and far.Sadly the happy memories were tarnished for all by the recollection that some of the stalwarts Jim Carr, David Blackadder and May Hogan were no longer with us.It was great to see Eamon Kearns being honoured on the night. Although Eamon had moved on to success with Canon Burke A.C. his presence at the function reminded everyone of his sterling efforts to keep Shamrocks going

Junior Camogs victory over Mayobridge
Last Saturday Newry Shamrocks hosted Mayobridge in an U11 game. The girls from Newry Shamrocks gave a great account of themselves and just edged a victory with goals coming from Zara Powell, Sinead Moffett and Maeve Hegarty. Caoimhe Mc Parland had a great game starting in goals and later moving into midfield. Her younger sister Caitlin proved that if you are good enough age doesn’t really matter and as the youngest player on the pitch she lead way on many of the tackles and was always first to the ball. Sarah Gorman was stalwart in defence and first cousin Aoife was excellent in midflield. Shamrocks U10 will be playing in the some of the Blitzes to be held during the summer months and this was excellent prepara

Great Year for Newry Shamrocks Camogie Seniors So Far

Victory was earned by outstanding performances from Charlene Lively, Martina Rooney and Brenda Russell in defence with Kate Kane and Michaela Downey getting crucial scores. Good Win for Senior Footballers at Attical 03.10.09
The Shamrocks ground out a hard earned win against Attical to get a much needed 2 points finishing Attical 2-03 Shamrocks 2-09 which follows up a good win at home to Daragh Cross 1-07 to 0-09.   The Shamrocks were more hungry than the opposition, which in truth was probably down to the Shamrocks needing to get a result, with Attical already safe and with less incentive. The game was scrappy in parts and certainly lacked fluency, but at this stage in the season, it is the result that counts.   The Shamrocks went into an early lead with 3 early points to 0-1 with a fourth coming from Nial Cunningham, with Attical coming back to 04 points to 02. Shamrocks U14 Hurlers Reach County Final
Shamrocks U14 Hurlers Reach County Final The young hurlers of Newry recorded a historic victory over Carryduff in the U14 county hurling semi final. Having won the South Down league earlier in the year, Newry had high hopes of doing well in the championship backboned by a team that had won the U12 all county league 12 months previously. Having defeated Clonduff 6-12 to 0-3 in the previous round the hurlers of Newry approached their semi final joust with Carryduff in confidence. However the loss of key players Daithi Young and Matthew Dipnell due to injury and holidays respectively in the build up to the game meant the Newry lads were going to face a real battle and so it proved. Shamrocks see off Daragh Cross
Shamrocks 1-11 Darragh Cross 1-08   A SUPERB second half Newry Shamrocks’ fightback ensures that they still have an outside chance of making the play-offs.Brendan McGourty got the visitors to a wet Pairc Esler on Saturday evening off the mark with an excellent point on two minutes. The same player was unlucky not to add a second point when his effort from distance deflected off the post to go harmlessly wide.At this stage Darragh were making all the running and Hugh Murray scored the away side’s second point to confirm their supremacy.Shamrocks kept in touch when their first meaningful attack was halted illegally, Conor McCoy conv

Shamrocks Ladies Win Double
Newry Shamrocks 5-19 St Michael’s 0-01 NEWRY Shamrocks crushed St Michael’s in Wednesday’s Down Ladies Junior Championship floodlit final at Pairc Esler.   The girls in green and white, who earlier in the season had won the league, were in fantastic form as they hit their Magherlin visitors with an avalanche of scores to run out overwhelming winners with a landslide 5-19 to 0-1 victory.   There was not a failure in the Shamrocks’ side and, although Niamh O’Riordan was their top markswoman with a magnificent personal tally of three goals and two points, she did not win the Player of the Match award. Unusually that accolade was shared – and on this occas

Slick Shamrocks slam Saul in Intermediate Championsip First Round
Shamrocks 2-15 Saul 0-8   ON a stormy weekend in Down, Newry Shamrocks drowned sad Saul in this one-sided first round Intermediate Championship in Ballymartin, writes Ciaran Daly.   Shamrocks outplayed and outscored the east Down outfit throughout, running away as convincing winners. With high winds blowing and rain persistently falling, conditions were trying for both sides.   The town team opted to play with the wind in the first half but it was Saul who opened the scoring after two minutes. U14s Unlucky Against Saval
Unlucky to the lads last night out in Saval, they were beat by 6 point in the end. The lads were outstanding representing the club, once again all players in the panel worked hard and put in 100% effort with some great individual performances, although Tom doing Umpire wasnt a great choice (as he was taking a leaf out of Antony McKay's book and giving wide balls as points)) This small squad of players are improving with each game under their belt, I have no doubt they will be in contention for the league this year. Good luck to them all in the semi final of the feile this Saturday.Conor Haughey.

The Shamrocks U-14 team lost out to Kilcoo in the U14 All County Final yesterday (29.09.07).   On a dreary afternoon in Castlewellan our U14s were beaten by a better Kilcoo team. However, with a bit more luck in front of goal and a few more decisions going our way, this could have been a different story, although Kilcoo were deserving winners in the end, and we wish Kilcoo well.   Our U14's have done brilliantly this year, and finishing 2nd in league and winning the South Down championship have done the club proud this year, so congrats again to Collie and mentors and all the U14 team, and am sure there will be good days ahead for this team and our other underage teams coming th

On Thursday night last a large crowd saw our U-14 footballers progress to the final of the Championship at the expense of a very gallant Mayobridge side. Slowly but surely they gathered confidence and started to claw back at the Mayobridge lead. At half time Mayobridge lead 2-6 to 2-1.   Both teams traded points at the beginning of the second half, but with the Shamrocks defense now getting to grips with their men, supremacy was gained at midfield throught the excellent Mc Evoy and hard working Kane.
